Traces of a bygone era

In Windeck Castle we are part of 800 years of history filled with romanticism and adventure. Built in the year 1200, the Castle was only documented twelve years later. The lords of Windeck were the protective overlords of the Schwarzach Abbey, were feudatories of the counts of Eberstein, later of the bishops of Strasbourg and the margraves of Baden.

Throughout the centuries, the knights were in frequent conflict. Thus, the lords of Windeck were repeatedly at feud with the counts of Wuerttemberg and the city of Strasbourg. Windeck Castle was besieged several times, but never taken. It did, however, burn down towards the end of the 14th century and subsequently had to be partially renovated.
